Wait at the Edge of Our Nerves

June 15, 2026 Jeff Reed

Wait at the Edge of Our Nerves

For Hammond, Louisiana

There may be a bomb beneath your basement,

so says the Army Corps of Engineers.

This, gentlemen, is an uncomfortable arrangement.

Permits were halted at the official statement,

understandably so, based on the fears

of there being a bomb beneath your basement.

The developers fumed at the cost this delay meant.

They had already been building infrastructure for years.

This, gentlemen, is an uncomfortable arrangement.

Lawsuits followed, settlements, payments,

closed doors, open doors, real estate disclosures,

that there might be a bomb beneath your basement.

An unexploded ordinance in its original encasement

is no small matter for the amateurs.

This, gentlemen, is an uncomfortable arrangement

and true to life, as in all entertainment,

the wait at the edge of our nerves to hear

there may be a bomb beneath our basement.

This, gentlemen, is an uncomfortable arrangement.
